Australia Post has expressed disappointment at the CEPU’s decision to press for strike action in support of its EBA claims.
“Today’s action is extremely disappointing given that there is a very generous offer on the table – a 12% increase over the two and a half year life of the agreement and a $500 performance bonus,” said Mr Rod McDonald, Australia Post’s Group Manager, Corporate Human Resources.
“More particularly, Post’s offer locks in all existing entitlements and award conditions and provides guarantees around job security.”
Australia Post will urge staff to vote “no” in the ballot.
“The simple fact is, our people could have had a pay increase in their pockets months ago. Australia Post has negotiated in good faith since September last year – the union has made absolutely no effort to come to the party,” Mr McDonald said.
He said that Australia Post’s EBA7 hotline had been flooded by calls from staff urging the parties to come to agreement.
“Our people want a pay rise and we’re ready to pay them. Strike action won’t achieve anything except further delays.
“For the union to continually link EBA7 with Work Choices is simply wrong. We’re confident that our people won’t fall for it,” he said.
