How TLMS Labelling Works

Overview

Australia Post provides Tray Label Management System (TLMS) software at no cost to bulk mail customers. Use of the software is subject to licensing conditions and the allocation of a unique Application ID for each installation.

The six-digit ID is important as:

  • Application support is provided by our Technical Support Centre, and the ID is used to track customers' queries and requests.
  • Print quality and label condition are important in ensuring that mail can be promptly delivered. The Application ID enables mail centres to respond to individual customers if label quality is affecting the processing of their bulk mail.

VisaPost System Architecture

Australia Post's own software installations are linked nationally via the Australia Post Wide Area Network (WAN) with servers located at Head Office level and at each Mail Centre.

The software runs on a standard Windows interface - the usual Windows functions are implemented with a keyboard and mouse.

Customer TLMS Applications

TLMS software consists of three components.

1.  VisaCustomer

  • Creates or imports, edits, exports, saves and prints label plans and reports using customers' validated data or the Australia Post database

2.  Touchscreen

  • Provides a simple screen for unskilled operators to print tray labels

3.  Command line

  • Checks appropriately formatted mail-run data from a customer's own data file against Australia Post reference data
  • Generates log files to identify errors in data, and where correct generates output data for printing or saving as label plans within TLMS applications

Application Identifiers

An Application ID is a number issued for each software installation. A unique application ID must be used for each setup of this software. Direct any problems or queries regarding your Application ID to:

Label Types

  • Customer Printed on Demand Labels  - Typically used by bulk customers printing their own labels from TLMS for Barcoded PreSort Letters Service.

  • Preprinted Bulk Labels  - Identical preprinted labels, with spaces for manual entry of customer and lodgement details, are available for customers who prefer not to print their own labels. There are 144 different variants, depending on product and destination.
